DTE Electric Files Revised Renewable Energy Plan With Michigan Regulators

DTE Electric Company proposed a 225-megawatt wind farm and two solar power purchase contracts of about 125 megawatts in its revised renewable energy plan filed with the Michigan Public Service Commission on March 31. The generation capacity, to be added over the next two years, would enable compliance with the 15 percent of the renewable portfolio standard.

The DTE Energy Company subsidiary expects to seek approval of additional resources to supply its voluntary green pricing programs through separate filings in the future. The company proposed amendments to its renewable energy plan following a July 2019 order, in which the commission deferred on a final determination on the proposed renewable generation assets not qualifying for the full production tax credit. The commission directed the company to refile an amended renewable energy plan following the issuance of an order in its integrated resource plan.

On March 20, the company filed a revised integrated resource plan with the Michigan Public Service Commission incorporating changes that the agency recommended to the original plan. The new IRP includes a single pathway and eliminates the four possible scenarios in the previous plan, applies higher energy waste reduction targets, and removes unapproved supply-side resources for capacity needs over the next 15 years. The resource plan includes requests for proposals that the company issued in September 2019 to acquire wind and solar energy projects.
