Maine Regulator Clears Contract for 70-Megawatt Wind Project

The Maine Public Utilities Commission on July 12 approved a 20-year contract for a Weaver Wind LLC’s 72.6 megawatt wind power project, which is expected to come online by the end of 2020.

The commission determined that the contract price of 3.5 cents per kilowatt hour, which is set to increase at 2.5 percent annually, is competitive and directed Emera Maine to purchase power from the project in accordance with the contract terms.

The approval marks the second contract for renewable energy this year. In February, the commission approved terms for a 10-year contract for Three Rivers Solar Power LLC’s project, the winning proposal among seven bids submitted in response to the agency’s solicitation last July.

Weaver Wind is a subsidiary of Longroad Development Partners LLC.
