New Jersey Set to Establish $30 Million Electric Vehicle Incentive Program

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities took the first step towards developing an incentive program to support the purchase and use of electric vehicles and associated infrastructure in the state, according to a Sept. 27 news release. The state has a goal of achieving 330,000 EVs on the road by 2025, which will cut emissions from the transportation sector that accounts for 46 percent of its emissions.

The agency approved a request for quotation to hire a consultant to develop and administer the program, which will jumpstart the state’s efforts to electrify the transportation sector. A joint effort by Democratic Governor Phil Murphy and the state legislature in June allotted $30 million in the state budget from the Clean Energy Fund for the incentive program. Promoting zero-emission vehicles is crucial to attain the state’s goal of 100 percent clean energy by 2050, the agency said.

Responses to the RFQ are due by Oct. 28, 2019. A consultant will be selected and submitted for approval by the board in Q4 of 2019.
