New York Creates Just Transition Working Group for Equitable Transition to Clean Energy Future

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority on Aug. 24 announced the approval of the Just Transition Working Group and six advisory panels tasked with providing recommendations to the Climate Action Council.

The council is a 22-member committee established under the 2019 Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, which sets aggressive goals for New York to achieve carbon-free power by 2040 and 85 percent emission cuts below 1990 levels by 2050.

The advisory panels represent key economic sectors equipped with providing recommendations to the council as it crafts a strategic plan to transform New York’s economy, create jobs, and spur industry and innovation, while enhancing community resilience. The Just Transition Working Group will help to ensure the state’s workforce is prepared for and benefits from the shift to renewable energy.
