PJM Interconnection Requests Show Growing Shift From Natural Gas to Renewables
Virginia, followed by Ohio and Pennsylvania ranked as the top states within the PJM Interconnection LLC system for the amount of solar capacity requesting to be connected to the network, according to a July 26 report from the system manager.
- The bulk of the wind project requests, mostly large offshore projects, are from New Jersey and Virginia.
- Renewables accounted for 5.4 percent of the generation mix in PJM last year, the report showed.
- Most of the states within PJM have set ambitious targets to procure power from renewables:
NJ: 50% by 2030
MD: 50% by 2030
DE: 25% by 2026
DC: 100% by 2032
PA: 18% by 2021 (includes non-renewable alternative energy)
IL: 25% by 2026
OH: 12.5% by 2026
NC: 12.5% by 2021 (IOUs)
MI: 15% by 2021
VA: 15% by 2025
IN: 10% by 2025 (includes non-renewable alternative energy)
