U.S. Interior Department Announces Colorado Oil, Gas Lease Sale

The U.S. Interior Department’s Bureau of Land Management announced a proposal to offer 45 parcels of land, totaling about 67,244 acres located on Jackson, Las Animas, Rio Blanco, and Weld Counties, at the September quarterly oil and gas lease sale, according to a Mar. 31 news release.

The agency is seeking public input on issues to be considered before beginning an environmental analysis. The public scoping period ends April 14.

In the 2018 fiscal year the agency generated about $6.9 billion from public lands in Colorado.  Each lease sale renders 48 percent of proceeds to the state, while the remainder goes to the U.S. government.
