FERC Natural Gas Expansion Project

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission seeks public comments on the scope of issues to address in its environmental impact statement for Algonquin Gas Transmission LLC’s proposed Algonquin Reliable Affordable Resilient Enhancement in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The project consists of 13.5 miles of interstate natural gas transmission pipeline along the company’s existing transmission system. The project is designed to provide about 73,500 dekatherms of natural gas per day to several local distribution companies. PF26-7-000

FERC Market and Planning Efficiency

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will hold a technical conference to discuss grid-enhancing technologies, load forecasting, and opportunities to increase market and planning efficiency through improved software. The conference will include panel discussions and presentations on cutting edge research topics. Topics covered in the panel discussions include challenges that large loads create for forecasting as well as how planners and operators are addressing those challenges to enable speed to power, including the use of software solutions, while maintaining system reliability and supporting consumer affordability. Improved load forecasting can help ensure that consumers do not bear the costs of capacity procured for forecasted load that does not result in real demand. The agenda also features sessions on energy storage, including its role as a transmission asset, and software for optimizing existing generation and transmission infrastructure to improve reliability. NRC Crane Clean Energy Center

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission seeks comments on a draft environmental assessment and draft finding of no significant impact evaluating the environmental effects of proposed federal actions to reauthorize power operations at the Christopher M. Crane Clean Energy Center in Pennsylvania. Formerly known as Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1, the facility consists of an 835-megawatt reactor. Constellation Energy Generation LLC has requested approval to restart the plant, which shut down in 2019, and continue operations through 2034. In November 2025, DOE announced a $1 billion loan to support the project. READ MORE

BLM Colorado Oil and Gas Lease Sale

The Bureau of Land Management seeks public input on 114 oil and gas parcels totaling 126,744 acres that may be included in a December 2026 lease sale in Colorado. The bureau reviews drilling permit applications, conducts an environmental analysis, and coordinates with state partners and stakeholders. Parcels offered in a federal oil and gas lease sale include appropriate stipulations to protect important natural resources.

PR EB Interconnection Regulation

The Puerto Rico Energy Bureau is expected to issue a draft interconnection regulation for distributed generation and microgrids. Recent legislation removed certain supplemental study and grid improvement charges for systems up to 25 kilowatts and directed the bureau to finalize updated regulations by Jan. 7, 2027. The bureau held a workshop in May to review stakeholder comments on multiple topics, including interconnection timelines, fees, queue transparency, hosting capacity, and compensation for energy export curtailments. SC PSC Duke Energy Solar and Storage Procurement

The South Carolina Public Service Commission is expected to issue a decision on a request by Duke Energy Carolinas LLC and Duke Energy Progress LLC regarding a path forward for solar and solar-plus-storage procurement as part of their 2026 Competitive Procurement of Renewable Energy, or CPRE. The companies stated that recent developments in North Carolina have affected their ability to proceed with the originally contemplated dual-state procurement. The companies proposed two approaches and requested that the commission indicate its preferred path forward. The first would reduce the target volume for the 2026 solar and solar-plus-storage solicitation to 140 megawatts, approximately 18 percent of the originally targeted 770 megawatts, to reflect the share of system peak load attributable to South Carolina customers. The second would defer solar procurement to the 2027 CPRE, consistent with the biennial procurement framework established under the South Carolina Energy Security Act. 2026-56-E

MT PSC Black Hills Wildfire Mitigation Plan

The Montana Public Service Commission seeks comments on Black Hills Power Inc.’s proposed wildfire mitigation plan, outlining a multi-layered approach to reducing wildfire risk through asset programs, integrity programs, and operational response measures. Planned activities include vegetation management within rights-of-way, aerial and ground powerline patrols, and pole inspections and replacement. The company also proposes system investments to improve reliability and reduce wildfire risk, such as undergrounding electric distribution lines where feasible and retrofitting equipment to reduce wildlife interactions with facilities. The plan also includes an Emergency Public Safety Power Shutoff program, which involves proactively de-energizing electric distribution facilities in high-risk areas as a last resort measure to reduce the risk of wildfire ignition. 2026.01.009

CA EC Clean Transportation Program Investment Plan

The California Energy Commission seeks comments on its 2026-2027 Investment Plan Update for the Clean Transportation Program. The initiative has an annual budget of about $100 million to support projects including electric vehicle charging, hydrogen refueling infrastructure, and workforce training programs. A 2007 law established the program and authorized the commission to develop and deploy zero-emission and other advanced fuels and transportation technologies to help attain the state’s climate policies. The program was reauthorized until July 1, 2035, following 2023 legislation with some additions and revisions. 26-ALT-01

CA EC Geothermal Energy Development

The California Energy Commission will host a workshop to discuss the state’s geothermal energy resources and their benefits, as well as challenges to and strategies for developing these resources. The workshop, part of the 2026 Integrated Energy Policy Report, or IEPR, update, will examine several topics including California’s geothermal resource potential and planning, financing and bankability, and workforce development and training. The report will identify potential actions the state can take to support the expansion of in-state geothermal development. The IEPR is prepared every two years to provide assessments and forecasts of energy industry supply, production, transportation, delivery and distribution, demand, and prices. In alternate years, the commission updates the statewide forecast of electricity demand. Written comments are due by July 23. 26-IEPR-04
