The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection seeks comments on its 2026 Annual Ambient Air Monitoring Network Plan. The plan reflects changes made to the state’s air monitoring network and identifies additional changes anticipated to occur in the remainder of 2026 and in 2027. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requires state and local agencies to enhance air monitoring in order to improve public health protection and provide communities with information about air quality. Annual ambient air monitoring network plans must include a statement of purpose for each monitor and evidence that the siting and operation of each monitor meet federal requirements.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection will hold the fourth in a series of public informational workshops to increase awareness and understanding of current issues and opportunities related to new nuclear development in the state. The meeting will focus on workforce development, education, and economic opportunities associated with advanced nuclear technologies. The stakeholder process follows a proceeding launched in October to explore the potential for new nuclear capacity. The process is intended to build on the information and dialogue fostered in the workshops to develop and implement a competitive advanced nuclear reactor site readiness funding program.

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority seeks proposals for a $15 million funding opportunity to support innovative building solutions in the state. The Innovation for Affordable Building Electrification program supports solutions that can rapidly scale to enable electrification, reduce peak loads, and improve the efficiency of the state’s building stock. The initiative will validate the technical performance and commercial readiness of new solutions through successful projects. Proposals must address one of three energy topic areas: energy efficiency, electrification, or load management.

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission will hold an in-person public information meeting on Plum Creek Storage’s proposed up to 200-megawatt/800-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system in Cottonwood County. The project would operate alongside the previously permitted Plum Creek Wind Project and would be sited on approximately 35.9 acres of private land. The applicant notes that the project is needed to facilitate renewable energy generation and support grid reliability. An online meeting will be held on July 22. ESS-26-157

The Montana Public Service Commission will hold a listening session on NorthWestern Energy’s 2026 Integrated Resource Plan, evaluating potential generation resources to meet customer electricity needs in the state over the next 20 years. The plan identifies a near-term capacity need emerging in winter 2027 due to expiring contracts and growing demand. Based on NorthWestern’s 2025 planning assumptions, a winter capacity shortfall of approximately 23 megawatts is projected to emerge during the 2027-2028 period, increasing to nearly 200 megawatts after the expiration of a capacity contract. The IRP highlights the central role of the Colstrip coal plant, finding that maintaining the plant through 2042 remains the lowest-cost option compared with early-retirement scenarios. The plan also notes that data center load is reshaping Montana’s load forecast, introducing significant uncertainty while offering new opportunities for the energy system if resource and infrastructure development are coordinated. The Nevada Public Utilities Commission seeks comments on Estuary Development Partners LLC’s application to construct a 1,200-megawatt photovoltaic solar electric generating facility in Lincoln County. The proposed Coyote Energy Project would include a 500-kilovolt on-site substation and an up to 4,800-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system across approximately 8,177 acres of private land. 26-06017

The California Energy Commission seeks written comments on the benefits, challenges, and strategies of developing the state’s geothermal energy resources, as part of the 2026 Integrated Energy Policy Report, or IEPR, Update. The commission recently held a workshop, which featured discussions on several topics including California’s geothermal resource potential and planning, financing and bankability, and workforce development and training. The report will identify potential actions the state can take to support the expansion of in-state geothermal development. The IEPR is prepared every two years to provide assessments and forecasts of energy industry supply, production, transportation, delivery and distribution, demand, and prices.
