The Energy Bar Association (EBA) will host two days of discussions about all aspects of energy policy, energy trends and energy laws during their Mid-Year Energy Forum this year. The event will take place at The Renaissance hotel in Washington, DC. The dates of the event are Tuesday, October 11, 2022 through Wednesday, October 12, 2022. The EBA website (eba-net.org) has more information about the program, and how to register.
Attendees of EBA’s Mid-Year Energy Forum will include attorneys, energy professionals, and students working in all areas of energy law. Some of the areas of energy law that participants work in include antitrust, legislation and regulatory reform, international energy transactions, electric utility regulation, finance and transactions, alternative dispute resolution, and environment and public land law at federal, state, and international levels.
The Energy Bar Association (EBA) mission
According to EBA, the association’s mission is “To advance the professional excellence of those engaged in energy law, regulation and policy through professional education, exploring diverse viewpoints and building connections.”
The Energy Bar Association is composed of energy professionals, students, and attorneys that work in all aspects of energy law. It is an international non-profit association. There are seven regional EBA chapters in the United States. In Mexico and Canada, there are a growing number of EBA members every year.
Conferences and educational seminars offered by EBA
EBA hosts two national conferences per year, as well as educational seminars throughout each year. The focus of the educational seminars is to provide programs from an introductory level to advanced levels. Many of the programs qualify for continuing legal education credits.
Networking opportunities at EBA events
EBA has enjoyed great success, in part because of its member interactions, and the wide variety of networking opportunities at EBA events. At receptions, lunches, and dinner programs, EBA’s membership meets to share expertise and meet colleagues in the energy law sector.
The EBA Energy Law Academy
The EBA Energy Law Academy bases its curriculum on the core legal and regulatory concepts and energy industry fundamentals that an energy law practitioner would need to achieve success, in the real world.
The main goal of the EBA Energy Law Academy is to supply attorneys working in the energy sector, and energy professionals with an inclusive foundation of the many different aspects of the energy law sector. After completion of the program, EBA Academy students will gain a thorough familiarity with the basic subject matter areas of energy law. The purpose of this is to allow them to better approach, research, and evaluate the issues that their clients might face in the energy industry.
EBA accredited programs for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits
EBA offers a wide variety of CLE programs, and is an accredited CLE provider. Settings for the programs include face-to-face, remote, and on-demand. These programs also may provide additional ethics credits required by some states. Most states require attorneys to complete ongoing Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits to keep their credentials current. Rules and regulations can vary widely, according to the state’s rules indicating what qualifies for CLE credit, and what does not. EBA helps navigate the complex requirements.
EBA resources and chapters
EBA offers a variety of resources for its members, including podcasts, an online store, Energy Law Journal articles, an e-library, the EBA Annual Report, EBA authored articles, EBA newsroom, a weekly insights e-newsletter, and social hub.
EBA has many chapters throughout the US and Canada. These include the Canadian Chapter, Texas Chapter, Louisiana Chapter, Midwest Chapter, Northeast Chapter, Rocky Mountain Chapter, Southern Chapter, and Western Chapter.
