New Jersey Regulator Announces Energy Storage Analysis to Help Achieve 2 Gigawatt Goal

Alternative compliance payments assessed under Connecticut renewable portfolio standards program fell to $2.329 million in 2016, a decline of more than half from 2014, according to a RPS compliance report issued Jan. 23 by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority.

  • Assessed alternative compliance payments fell down from $3.90 million in 2015 and $7.86 million in 2014.
  • Sixteen companies failed to completely fulfil the renewable portfolio standard requirements by procuring and properly settling the required amount of renewable energy certificates
  • In 2016, total renewable source deficiency consisted of 25,948 Class I renewable energy certificates, 5,585 Class II renewable energy certificates, and 19,208 Class III renewable energy certificates
  • Fall in compliance payments came as Connecticut’s aggregated electric load for 2016 RPS compliance purposes was 27,974,522 MWh, a decline from the 2014 load of 28,491,578 MWh and the 2015 load of approximately 28,613,907 MWh.
  • In 2016, 48 companies, consisting of 46 electric suppliers and the two electric distribution companies were subject to the Connecticut renewable portfolio standards requirements
  • The 48 companies served a total load in Connecticut of 27,974,522 MWh
