Ameren Outlines Clean Energy Strategy to Slash Carbon Emissions by 2050

Ameren Corporation published a report on March 11 called Building a Cleaner Energy Future, in which it sets out the company’s strategy for tackling climate risks and moving toward cleaner energy. The company wants to reduce carbon emissions by 35 percent by 2030, 50 percent by 2040 and an 80 percent reduction by 2050 from 2005 levels.

Ameren expects to deliver on this promise largely by implementing its subsidiary’s Ameren Missouri’s 2017 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). It includes the retirement of half of its current coal plants by 2037, investing about $1 billion in wind projects to achieve a target of 700 megawatts by 2020 and 100 megawatts of solar by 2027.
