The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners will be hosting their Summer Policy Summit event at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina in San Diego, California, from July 17-20, 2022. EnerKnol will be present at a booth, to meet with NARUC officers, staff, and members, as well as event attendees.
NARUC is a non-profit organization that was established in 1889 with the intention of representing state public service commissioners who govern essential services for consumers. These essential services include energy, telecommunications, power, water, and transportation.
How state utility commisioners are chosen
Most state commissioners are assigned by their respective governor or legislature. Eleven of the state commissioners are chosen by majority vote by the public, and 2 state commissioners are selected by their state’s general assembly.
NARUC’s mission is to improve the quality and effectiveness of public utility regulation. NARUC’s members are obligated to ensure the establishment and maintenance of utility services, at rates and conditions that are fair, reasonable, and nondiscriminatory for all consumers.
EnerKnol is proud to participate in NARUC’s Summer Policy Summit again this year. The NARUC staff are power-users of EnerKnol, and frequently use the platform to find important information related to energy regulation. EnerKnol provides this information in real-time, and on one platform. This saves users from using a multitude of different sources to find this information. 40+ million filings, including rules, notices, tariffs, rate changes, and much more are accessible on the EnerKnol platform.
Bill Pierce, Marketing Director at EnerKnol, said: “We are very excited about attending NARUC’s Summer Policy Summit this year in San Diego. We are confident our platform is very valuable to NARUC staff and members, as well as attendees of the event. We are looking forward to meeting fellow energy professionals at the event, and letting them know about the great benefits of using EnerKnol. Our cloud-based software allows energy leaders to access and track critical energy regulatory policy data in real-time that they need to succeed in today’s ever-changing energy market.”
NARUC’s yearly official meetings and meetings endorsed by NARUC
NARUC holds three meetings every year, the NARUC Winter Policy Summit, The NARUC Summer Policy Summit, and the NARUC Annual Meeting and Education Conference. At these meetings, NARUC members set policy, share best practices, and discuss crucial industry issues. NARUC’s regional associations hold meetings throughout the year. NARUC also endorses meetings from various organizations involved in public utility regulation.
NARUC’s policy department handles a variety of advocacy efforts on behalf of state regulators. The department frequently advocates regulatory causes with federal courts and agencies. Congressional bills related to regulation are tracked. The views of the association on bills of particular interest are conveyed to lawmakers.
NARUC provides its members with updates and notices on legislation and regulatory activities that impact state regulatory policies. These updates and notices include frequent updates on FERC and FCC activities.
NARUC’s policy department holds weekly and biweekly conference call meetings on related developments in the federal government, as well as all state governments. The department influences policy as a key voice to advocate for consumers in matters relating to reliable and fairly priced essential services.
EnerKnol is honored to partner with NARUC, and we commend the organization for advocating for utility rates and conditions that are fair for all consumers.
