Pipeline companies have completed four new petroleum liquids pipelines projects across the U.S. since 2023, according to an Oct. 21 report published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The new pipeline projects consist of three crude oil and one hydrocarbon gas liquids.

The South Bend Pipeline was completed during 2023 and is a 150,000 barrel per day (b/d) pipeline that transports crude oil from Johnsons Corner, North Dakota to Baker, Montana. The Keystone Port Neches Link is located in Texas and starts at the Sunoco Logistics terminal in Nederland and finishes at Motiva’s terminal in Port Neches. The pipeline has a capacity of 630,000 b/d and is around 5 miles in length.

The Borger Express Pipeline transports crude oil from Major County, Oklahoma, to Hutchinson County, Texas. The pipeline has a capacity of 90,000 b/d and was completed in 2023. Moreover, the pipeline transports crude around 195 miles. The Seminole Red Pipeline was converted to a hydrocarbon gas liquids pipeline from a crude oil pipeline by Enterprise Products Partners. The pipeline was initially a hydrocarbon gas liquids pipeline, before it was transformed to a crude oil pipeline during 2019. The pipeline was changed back to hydrocarbon gas liquids during 2024.

As it stands, the agency reports that there are currently nine liquids pipeline projects announced and 10 projects are being built. During 2022, four petroleum liquids pipeline projects were completed, three crude oil and one hydrocarbon gas liquids. The Ted Collins Pipeline and Vito Oil Pipeline were new, while the Cushing South Phase II project was an expansion. The Appalachia to Texas Express Pipeline which transports hydrocarbon gas liquids was an expansion project.
