Invenergy Wins New York Approval for 290-Megawatt Wind Generation Project
The New York State Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment on March 13 granted a permit, allowing Canisteo Wind Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Invenergy LLC, to construct a 290.7-megawatt wind generating facility in Steuben County. The project is expected to generate up to $60 million in local property tax revenues over 20 years. The New York Power Authority has awarded a 20-year power purchase agreement for the energy, capacity and renewable energy credits generated from the project.
NYPA’s award, which is a result of a 2017 competitive bid solicitation, marks NYPA’s first transaction for a large-scale renewable project. The wind farm will consist of up to 117 wind turbines spanning 25,000 acres of privately leased land and will enable landowners to continue with existing land uses.
The project is the largest approved by the siting board to date, after Innogy SE’s Baron Winds project, which received approval last September for a 242-megawatt wind farm in western New York.
