DOE Battery Recycling and Smart Manufacturing Fund

The U.S. Energy Department is due to receive applications for up to $63 million in funding for state and local governments to expand battery recycling and upgrade U.S. manufacturing. The opportunity, funded by the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, incorporates $41 million to boost state and local governments’ ability to support local and state-wide battery recycling programs, and $22 million towards creating and extending programs that support over 3,500 small- and medium-sized manufacturers in implementing smart manufacturing technologies and practices, and accessing high-performance computing resources. The funding supports the administration’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

BOEM Central Atlantic Renewable Energy Development

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management will hold a meeting to provide the public with an opportunity to to learn more about commercial offshore wind energy planning activities in the Central Atlantic. In August, the bureau issued a call for information and nominations for a second offshore wind lease sale in the region. The first one resulted in two provisional winners and $92.65 million in winning bids. Additional meetings will be held on Sept. 24, 25, and 26.

EPA Zero-Emission Transportation Projects

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold the second in a series of three webinars of the Environmental Financial Advisory Board on leveraging the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund resources to attract private capital into priority sectors. The webinar will explore strategies to leverage the fund’s resources to attract investment in zero emissions transportation projects, with a particular focus on low-income and disadvantaged communities. Financial experts will discuss innovative financial models, risk mitigation strategies, and opportunities for scaling up investments in the sector. The board provides advice and recommendations to the EPA on innovative approaches to funding environmental programs, projects, and activities. The first webinar held in July addressed net zero buildings projects.

NC UC Piedmont Natural Gas Rate Case

The North Carolina Utilities Commission will hold a hearing to discuss Piedmont Natural Gas Company Inc.’s application for adjustments of retail rates and charges applicable to natural gas services. The company seeks an increase in retail revenues of $149 million, or 11.7 percent, with a return on equity of 10.50 percent. G-9 Sub 837

NY DEC Equity and Climate Justice Roundtable

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority will hold a stakeholder roundtable to discuss the use of proceeds from the Climate Investment Account, which will direct auction proceeds from the New York Cap and Invest program to projects that benefit the state. The agencies seek input from the Climate Justice Working Group and other stakeholders on a draft proposed investment framework and areas of investment. Comments are due by Sept. 30.

DC PSC Washington Gas Leak Detection

The District of Columbia Public Service Commission will hold a technical conference on Washington Gas Light Company’s leak reduction and management practices. The conference will focus on the most effective methods, both in terms of technology and procedures, for detecting natural gas leaks in urban environments, as well as best practices and innovative approaches that may enhance accuracy and efficiency in leak detection. A second upcoming technical conference will address existing protocols for identifying and classifying Grades 1, 2, and 3 leaks in the district. FC1178

IA UC Summit Carbon CO2 Pipeline

Summit Carbon Solutions LLC will hold public informational meetings in Iowa to discuss its proposed carbon capture and sequestration project spanning 23 counties with approximately 340 miles of carbon dioxide pipeline. The Iowa Utilities Commission approved meeting dates and locations after reviewing the company’s request. These meetings aim to provide detailed information and address questions regarding the expansion of the hazardous liquid pipeline project.

CA EC Geothermal Energy Projects

The California Energy Commission will hold a workshop to discuss preliminary staff assessments for three geothermal projects proposed by BHE Renewable LLC, located in Imperial County within the Salton Sea Known Geothermal Resource Area. Two of the proposed projects – Morton Bay and Elmore North – would each have a maximum continuous rating of about 157-megawatt gross output with an expected net output of 140 megawatts. The third project, Black Rock, would have a gross output of approximately 87 megawatts with an expected net output of 77 megawatts. 23-AFC-03
