Colorado Regulator Clears Xcel to Retire Coal Plants, Add Renewables, Energy Storage

New York installed 744 megawatts of solar generating capacity through 2018, with an additional 883 megawatts in the pipeline under the NY Sun program, a $1 billion initiative that aims to add 3 gigawatts by 2023, according to a Feb. 14 report from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

  • Expanding to include all of the agency’s funding support for distributed solar, New York installed 1,254 megawatts through 2018 with an additional 923 megawatts in the pipeline.
  • The state currently has an installed distributed solar capacity of 1,570 megawatts with more than 300 megawatts added without direct funding from the agency, indicating that a self-sustaining market is building.
  • Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo’s “Green New Deal,” unveiled in January, proposes to double the state’s distributed solar goal to 6 gigawatts by 2025.
